A useful marine wall panel request for quotation (RFQ) should describe where the panels will be used, the required system, the quantities and the supply boundary. An area figure alone leaves important questions unanswered: Does the price include profiles? Are openings already defined? Which drawing revision should the supplier follow?
Use the following seven checks to prepare an enquiry that suppliers can price against the same scope. If information is still preliminary, mark it clearly and request a budget quotation with the assumptions listed.
1. Identify the application and location
State whether the enquiry is for cabin partitions, wall linings, corridors or wet areas. Include a location reference, such as the deck and room identifiers used in your drawings.
If several applications are included, list them separately. This gives each requirement a clear place in the panel schedule instead of applying one general description to every room.
2. Attach the specification and drawing revision
Provide the panel specification, arrangement drawings and relevant details, with their revision numbers. Identify any required fire, acoustic or other performance documentation from the project specification.
Ask the supplier to state which proposed system and supporting documents correspond to each requirement. Do not assume that a similar-looking panel is an equivalent substitute. Any proposed alternative should be clearly identified for the responsible project team’s review.
3. Separate dimensions, quantities and assumptions
Include panel thickness where specified, required heights, quantity or area by type, and any known restrictions on panel size. Explain whether the quantities are measured from drawings or are preliminary estimates.
Keep net wall area, openings and any requested spare allowance separate. If a supplier is expected to calculate quantities, identify the drawings to use and ask for the calculation basis to be shown in the quotation.
4. Define the exposed finish
Specify the finish reference, colour and which faces will be visible. Where a decorative pattern is involved, note the intended orientation and any requirement for sample review.
If the finish has not been selected, ask for clearly identified options. Comparing two quotations becomes difficult when one includes a basic finish and the other includes a different surface specification without saying so.
5. Mark openings and adjoining components
Show the locations and dimensions available for doors, windows, access panels and service openings. Identify which openings are confirmed and which require coordination.
Ask who is responsible for forming openings, supplying edge details and reviewing interfaces with adjacent components. Changes should remain traceable to a drawing revision rather than being scattered across separate email attachments.
6. List profiles, trims and other included items
Request an itemised accessory list appropriate to the proposed system. Depending on the agreed scope, this may include joints, corners, perimeter profiles, trims and fixing components.
State whether these items are included in the panel price, quoted separately or excluded. Also identify any installation work or supporting structure outside the material supply scope.
7. Clarify delivery and document requirements
Include the destination, required delivery window, preferred packing breakdown and any deck or room labelling requirements. Ask the supplier to distinguish production readiness from transport time when proposing a schedule.
List the documents required with the offer and at delivery. Keep technical review, commercial terms and logistics assumptions visible so that the purchasing team can compare offers consistently.
